Pushing the boundaries of equity in health and beauty…

As the daughter of 1st & 2nd generation immigrant parents and raised in the US south, I’ve always lived at the center of ‘Equity’ as an imperative, not a nice to have. At 26, I became one of the youngest, and first Afro-latina, to receive my PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Illinois, creating a platform for others to go on and do the same. During that time, my work was focused on studying the biophysics and neurophysiology of depression and autism and I subsequently became a double-licensed emergency medicine technician. As both a previous patient care provider and now as a beauty and health tech founder of Florae, my passion has always been to expand the lens of equity and access.

Now, I want to create spaces for people to achieve optimal brain health and lead important, and oftentimes difficult, discussions about health and diseases of the brain (especially in sports). I also want to champion an environment where inclusion is continually seen in the beauty industry. Building a bridge where people can positively impact their overall health outcomes through their everyday beauty routines.
